TITLE: Phraseology in Serbian language textbooks for elementary schools AUTHOR: Bc. Kristýna Avramovič DEPARTMENT: Institute of Ethnology and Central European and Balkan Studies SUPERVISOR: Mgr. et Mgr. Helena Stranjik, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: Children and adults do not think alike. The way children use idioms in communication differs from adults. If a child uses idioms in speech, it does not necessarily mean that he understands their meaning. One of the important aspects of phraseology in language classes is that it enables children to understand the essence of language. This is a way to give them the idea that language is more than just a combination of words and grammar. Textbooks help children learn that words are connected to culture and history. They can learn a lot about their culture through certain idioms. The thesis is focused on the teaching of phraseology in primary schools. Students' knowledge of idioms will be evaluated on both theoretical and practical level. In the introductory, theoretical part, idioms and phraseology will be defined (following the author's bachelor's thesis) alongside their role in Serbian language school programs in elementary schools in Serbia.
